COMMENTS

All tracks were recorded in the early months of 2002. The album contains a mix of newly written songs, songs that have become known though concerts appearances and one or two re-recordings, including a 30th anniversary re-recording of Brand New Key. This is very faithful to the original and is included because it is to be used in a TV commercial.  New compositions include And We Fall, Smile, The Punishment Fits The Crime, You Can Find Anything Here, ‘Til They All Get Home, Jammin’ Alone, When Love Is Deep.

And We Fall and Smile were written in conjunction with her son, Beau Jarred.  Over the years Melanie has performed many songs in concert that have never appeared on album. Right About Now, Leftover Emotions and Working Legend have become firm favourites with the fans and finally appear here. Jammin’ Alone, though more recent, would also fit into this category.

You Call Yourself A Writer first appeared on LowCountry, Never Had A Clue on Unchained Melanie and You Don’t Know Me on Old Bitch Warrior. Centre Of Your Circle and (of course) Brand New Key were both first recorded for the Gather Me album. While the latter of these sounds little different to the original the former has a completely new arrangement.

Overall, this is probably Melanie’s most commercial album in years. The production is consistent throughout and the influence of Beau Jarred shines through on the arrangements. The 24-page booklet that accompanies the CD contains extensive sleeve notes written by Melanie as well as lyrics to all the songs.

A limited number of copies of Victim of the Moon were made available in advance of the expected commercial release. The album finally emerged as Crazy Love with new packaging and amended track listing.
