For My Mother Polly 1926-2003
Thank you Mom, I Love You….
For three years Melanie, who became the voice of an era in one magical instant onstage at Woodstock, has been putting the pieces in order. This album is a kind of rebirth - an ignition of the creative energies with which she had first conquered the musical world. She has, in short, lived a rare life. But all of it was just a prelude to what's about to come. There's something new in "Paled by Dimmer Light".
"I feel like a person who's never been heard" she declares. "Maybe people think they've heard me, but they never really have. I'm a new artist. I'm having so much fun with my voice - a person shouldn't be allowed to have so much fun." Meet Melanie again - for the very first time.

THE HANDS
There are ways of making lace
No Belgian woman could or can
There are corporate cakes
and machines that make
an almost sun kissed tan
and though they’re nearly breathing
prefect, life-like, better than –
There are mistakes a human makes
But there’s something about the hands
- Melanie, Spring 2004
COMMENTS
This ‘Premier Limited Edition’ CD was made available at US concert appearance in early 2004. Like a number of recent releases it is a mixture of new songs and previous released tracks (some re-mixed)
New songs are Elements, To Be The One, Make It Work For Me, Extraordinary, I Tried To Die Young, Lover Of My Friend and They Can Find You In Your Dreams.
Nothing Is Real is a new version of the song Hearing The News, a live version of which was included on the 1973 double album, Melanie At Carnegie Hall. This new version uses samples of an unreleased studio version recorded back in the 70s.
And We Fall, Jammin’ Alone and Smile are taken from the album Crazy Love, though And We Fall has been re-mixed, taking the acoustic guitars further back and bringing out piano and electric guitar.
You Call Yourself A Writer is the version originally included on the album Victim Of The Moon.
The Ballad of Crazy Love first appeared on the European release of Crazy Love. However, this version may have been re-mastered as it has a much clearer vocal.
I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For is, of course, a cover version of the U2 song.
The album closes with an instrumental track by Beau.
The European release by CNR Records did not include Jammin’ Alone and Smile.
