YOUNG LIONS

From the musical ‘ACE OF DIAMONDS’

Last night I had that dream again
I held you in my arms
I had not yet been sentenced to life
Our daughters not yet born
I was still young, my plans were clear
The steel was in my spine
But today I count my seventy-first year
And one unbroken line

So tell all the young lions
Hold on for one more day
Tell all the young lions
Hold on for one more day

I still can hear that inner voice
So loud within this jail
There’s always one more cross-road
Always one more nail
And every show of mercy
Every curve in loves design
Leads from darkness into day
In one unbroken line

So tell all the young lions
Hold on for one more day
Tell all the young lions
Hold on for one more day

Last night I had that dream again
I held you in my arms
I had not yet been sentenced to life
Our daughters not yet born
I was still young, my plans were clear
The steel was in my spine
But today I count my seventy-first year
And one unbroken line

So tell all the young lions
Hold on for one more day
Tell all the young lions
Hold on for one more day

Tell all the young lions
Hold on for one more day
Tell all the young lions
Hold on for one more day
